Andrew,

I don't know whether you still remember me from this past summer's Ken Aston Camp. I was one of the participants in the N1 course, and I
had the pleasure to chat with you quite a bit.

I have some pictures of Ken taken during the camp presentation which Ken gave before a "full house" of referee candidates, together with
Kevin Stock. And then there there are a few pictures of my son Patrick and Ken during last year's Pro Camp.Needless to say, my son is devastated.

I share in the pain and sorrow of thousand of AYSO referees and referees throughout the world, young and old, for having lost a magnificent mentor, a shining example, an icon and a dear, dear friend. May these little mementoes bear witness of his love to soccer and his kindness to mankind.

Godspeed, Sir Knight Ken Aston!

I understand from our friend Margie Close that Joe Eldridge, National Referee Administrator, has put out the call for memories -- a story, a statement, a thought -- from those who would like to honor Ken Aston.

Bill Mason will carry a book of those to his funeral.

Those who would like to contribute should do so ASAP and send there sentiments to joeeldridge@ayso.org. Thanks.

Subject: Ken Aston stories

Joe,

One of my favorite Ken Aston stories was the one he told to illustrate a properly dedicated soccer referee. I think it was at Advantage 99 or
2000 (the one in San Diego).

It seems this dedicated referee's wife was severely depressed, so he took her to a doctor to find out what the problem was. After a thorough
exam, the doctor told the referee that his wife's problems were all in her head; there was nothing physically wrong with her.

So the referee took his wife to a psychiatrist who gave her a thorough psychological exam. The psychiatrist told the referee that his wife's
depression was caused by a lack of physical contact, and that making mad, passionate love to her once a week should fix her right up. The referee doubted the psychiatrist's diagnosis and demanded proof that this would be an effective cure. So the psychiatrist made mad, passionate
love to the referee's wife, and sure enough, her mood immediately changed to one of happiness and joy.

The referee was flabbergasted, and was now completely convinced that the psychiatrist was right. He then asked the psychiatrist which day
of the week would be best for satisfying his wife. The psychiatrist was a bit taken aback by the question, but said "How about Saturdays?"

To which the referee replied, "Sorry, I'm busy on Saturdays, but how about if I bring her by on Tuesdays?"
